DONATE A BED FOR SOLDIERS : " This project is launched in memory of General Parami Kulatunge of the Gemunu Batallion "   This is a project sponsored entirely on a voluntary basis by expatriate donors and resulted from first hand observations through visits to various sites that provide welfare and rehabilitation of disabled soldiers.   Donations are not solicited by the forces and the pictures are from visits by interested donors.  Individuals or groups can join to donate a bed at the total cost of US$ 200 that includes the mattress, a plate with the donor name and delivery.   All beds are guaranteed for life and repairs are provided by the manufacturer for the life of the bed.   Although the Government is committed to providing assistance, we as expatriates can do our part to assist through direct projects. In doing so, our generosity can be directed as we desire to meet such needs making sure that we collaborate with reliable companies to ensure donations reach the purpose for which they are directed.   The recent escalation in the numbers of injured to be released from hospitals has resulted in the need for additional accommodation for recovering soldiers in the already limited space available at the centres.   Among the injured are an ethnic mix of Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil members of the forces and a religious mix of Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu members who have sacrificed on behalf of their homeland.   Kuruwita was chosen as a launch pad for this project. However, we are open to other places receiving the same assistance through this initiative. The Kuruwita Regimental Battalion Headquarters is one of many such places housing disabled soldiers that also provides rehabilitation projects for disabled soldiers on the road to recovery.   How can expatriates donate beds?     "This project is initiated by well wishers and is not solicited by the forces.  All pictures provided are those that were collected from visits to the sites that are being helped by this project.  Others are welcome to join under the same conditions to donate direct to the source."
